Life

or Something Like It

Rating:

Brushing your teeth is more entertaining.

Here's the summary right off the sleeve:

"Lanie is a young woman with a perfect, but shallow life.  When a homeless psychic predicts that she is going to die next week, she thinks it's time to change the way she lives her life."  Basically the main character decides her life is meaningless and she sets about getting some meaning for it.

Make no mistake, this movie is truly horribly terrifically awful.  There is nothing good to say about it.  It is poorly written, directed, acted, filmed and edited.  There is so much wrong with it, I can't even begin to add details.  I just don't know where to start.

The only reason this movie did not subtract meaning from my life is because of the running commentary Alex and I added with much laughing from Mason.  In addition, we used the fast forward and watched only about 80 minutes of an 102 minute movie.

Here's another, better version of the story this movie tried to tell:

A poor man dreamt he met a holy man in a nearby village, and in his dream the holy man gave the poor man a fortune.  The poor man awoke and made the trip to the village in his dream.  He met the holy man and explained his dream.  The holy man then took a large ruby from his robe and presented it to the man.

The man walked home and stayed up all night starring at the ruby.  He had never even seen, let alone owned, such a beautiful thing.  In the morning he went back to the village and the holy man.  The poor man then returned the ruby, saying that the ruby wasn't the fortune in his dream.  The holy man asked the man to explain further.  The poor man said the fortune he sought was the knowledge the holy man had that allowed him to so easily give the ruby away.

Similar story line, more interesting character development.

Final word:  In keeping with the theme, your time will be better spent talking to your family and friends.
