Monk

This show is on USA, and on ABC.  You have double the chance to see it, so don't miss it!

Here's the basic premise:  Adrian Monk was a San Francisco police detective until his wife was murdered.  At that point, Monk became obsessive-compulsive. (Although in one episode it seemed that he was obsessive-compulsive in high school?)  Because of his psychological disorder, he is basically afraid of everything.  If anyone was truly this ill, he or she would never leave the bed let alone the house.

Monk continues to investigate cases as a private consultant.  Monk has a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming, who is there to help him navigate daily life.  She also functions as Monk's Dr. Watson.  His former boss, Captain Leland Stottlemeyer asks for his assistance and gives him inside information.

Monk is a wonderful, intelligent, funny show.  Keeping in mind that I like detective shows, I can easily compare Monk to Columbo.  It doesn't really matter who committed the crime, it's watching the detective get to the solution that's interesting.

Columbo drove everyone crazy by acting dumb, "Just one more question ma'am."  Monk annoys everyone by doing odd things that get him in trouble.  For example, he immediately washes his hands after he touches anything, including another person.  In one episode this causes a problem after he shakes hands with a black man, then uses a wipe to clean them.  He's accused of being racist even though the viewer knows he idolizes another character in the episode who is black.  The fun of Monk is watching others reactions to him,  his reactions to their reactions, and Sharona's attempts at smoothing things over.
