Road to Perdition

This should be another Oscar nomination for Tom Hanks and for Paul Newman.  The movie takes place in the depression era, and tells the story of a man (Tom Hanks) and his struggles to provide for his family. In order to do this, he becomes a hit man for a mob (lead by Paul Newman). One night his son is witness to a "hit" and now he must save his son. This involves a road trip to "Perdition" where safety awaits them.

While on the road, we see the blossoming of the relationship between father  and son. There are some funny scenes, but many more violent scenes (I was reminded of Bonnie and Clyde). And there is an exploration of father-son relationships on a couple of other levels too, Tom Hanks and Paul Newman, and the Paul Newman-and his son in the movie.

It was filmed around Chicago, and we recognized some of the scenery, there were even some beach scenes we recognized. Overall, the cinematography was monochromatic and dark, but very beautiful. It is a very good movie and I would give it a silver beetle.  But be prepared to cover your face a lot, and don't sit next to anyone, because I think the girl I sat next to was ready to hit me because I jumped too much!
